    Question

The answer to the question will no doubt be simple, but how can you see the transitions in premiere 5.1. I double click the transition and it gives a quick preview of start and stop positions etc but when i play the main timeline window the monitor only shows staight cuts not the transition i have asked for. Does this need rendered or something. Up until now i have been used to pinnacle studio software that previews the transition right away. Any help with this would be appreciated as i dont have the manual and the help system is not specific enough

    thanks again

Yes, if your hardware won't support RT, it will need rendering. If you preview at something like 352x288 res it will give you a good idea of what the full render will look like.

How come you don't have the manual? That wouldn't be a pirate copy of Premiere would it?

Anyway, what you need to do is PREVIEW the transition. Select the section of timeline that contains the transition using the blue bar above it, then go to the PROJECT menu and select PREVIEW. Premiere will then render that section of the timeline, so you can see your transition without rendering the entire project. However, any adjustments you make after performing this preview will mean that you need to preview the transition again.

Thanks a million your solution was spot on. I had been previewing it but couldnt figure out why it was only doing a couple of seconds......The answer.......The small blue bar at the top of the timeline was only selecting a couple of seconds.
So thanks again, i would have been ages figuring it out.

P.s. Can i push my luck and ask how to do slow motion as when i go to the menu with speed and enter 50% it cuts the clip short like it is accepted 50% for the duration field (although i havent touch the duration)

    Thanks again everybody smile

    Question

Someone help me on this. Everytime I try to make a transition (no matter wich one), it never does it. And when I play it the 2nd monitor show only the first inmage and has an "X" in the upper-left corner. I havn't done any moving clips yet just experimented with still pictures but those don't work. What the hell?

To LAmind - that is EXACTLY the same question Marti-c asked. Read the above responses.

As for slow motion, when you want to slow down a clip, make sure there are no other clips to the immediate right of it in the timeline, as when you slow the clip down you obviously increase its length. It could be that half the clip is getting stuck behind the next clip to the right, and that's why you're losing half your clip.

And as for stop motion, just put the time-line pointer on the frame you want, go to Export and then Frame and you can save it as an individual frame. Then a whole bunch of these frames can be imported into the timeline and stuck together and you've got stop motion animation!

for an instant preview of transisitions, hold down the ALT key as you use your mouse to drag the shuttle slider under the monitor window. though you won't be able to watch the transisition in real time you can get an idea of how it looks.

For slow motion the timeline will automatically cut your clip if there are clips before and after it. Be sure to give enough space on the timeline for the clip to double in size.

An easy way to do stop motion is to animate with your camera, import it, and just speed up the final product. It's easier than importing all these single frames. Involves a little experimentation, but what doesn't?
